In 2011, the primary department moved into brand new, bright, spacious and airy facilities with each learning space equipped with interactive white boards and wireless internet access. This allows teachers to provide students with relevant and engaging learning activities that enable students to be more responsible for their own learning.
Since 2010, the primary department has been privileged to participate in the Commonwealth Government’s National Partnership Program. This has allowed our school to invest heavily in teacher quality – the area identified by research as having the greatest impact on student learning and achievement. Extensive professional development in literacy, numeracy, IT and learning theory has seen a significant improvement in the quality of our school’s teaching and learning, as well as allowing teachers time to plan collaboratively with their colleagues.
Students are provided with opportunities to discuss and build upon their learning with their classmates and teachers. Identifying achievements and establishing personal goals allow students to take greater ownership of their learning which provides a more substantial foundation for success in education not only as they move into Secondary, but throughout their life.
New students regularly comment about the kindness of our learning community – not just that the teachers are kind, but that their fellow students are kind. For learning to occur, it is necessary to take risks and this can only occur when students feel safe. Our students value the importance of a safe and secure learning environment, both for themselves and for others. It is a tangible example of their understanding that the kindness they show others is the outflowing of the kindness which they have experienced through the Lord Jesus Christ.
